World Cup 2026: Canada vs Bosnia-Herzegovina Prediction & Odds

Canada vs Bosnia-Herzegovina World Cup 2026 prediction

Bosnia-Herzegovina have never played at a World Cup without Edin Džeko in the squad. The striker who led them to Brazil in 2014, who scored four goals in qualifying, who became the face of a footballing identity constructed almost entirely around one man — is now 40 years old and not involved. That is not a small thing for a nation whose relationship with international football has always been personal in a way that goes beyond results.

Canada, arriving as co-hosts for only their second World Cup in history, face a Bosnia side that is genuinely trying to work out what it is without that centre of gravity.

Canada

Jonathan David leads the line and is among the most clinically efficient forwards in European club football. His movement between the lines — dropping short, spinning in behind — is the most technically developed element of Canada’s attack. Alphonso Davies has matured beyond the explosive teenage version who first caught European attention; his understanding of when to carry and when to release has simplified Canada’s left-side build-up considerably. Stephen Eustáquio anchors midfield, reading the second phase of defensive situations with a composure that was not present in the 2022 World Cup squad.

Predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Crepeau; Johnston, Miller, Vitória, Davies; Eustáquio, Franklin; Buchanan, Hoilett, Larin; David

Bosnia-Herzegovina

Miralem Pjanić remains the most complete passer at this level from a Bosnian shirt — but Pjanić at 36 is a different proposition to Pjanić at 28, and the question of who carries attacking responsibility in his absence has not been cleanly answered. Edin Višća provides creative width from the right. Ermedin Demirović has been the primary beneficiary of the Džeko succession — physically capable and effective pressing from the front, but his goalscoring record at this level remains thin. Defensively, Bosnia rely on a compact mid-block. They have conceded from set pieces regularly over the last two international cycles, which is precisely the area where Canada can do damage.

Predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Šehić; Gazibegović, Šatara, Kolašinac, Kolasinac; Hadžić, Kusić; Višća, Pjanić, Gojak; Demirović

Prediction

Canada win this. Jonathan David against a Bosnia defensive line that concedes from set pieces is the most likely route to the opener. The home crowd and the home advantage are real. Bosnia will keep it tight in the first half — Demirović’s physical presence will test Canada’s centre-backs — but Canada’s quality in behind, and their dead-ball delivery through Buchanan, will tell in the second half.

Prediction: Canada 2-1 Bosnia-Herzegovina. Both teams to score at 2.10 reflects the slight defensive uncertainty on both sides and represents the better value over Canada to win to nil.
